We don’t always need to create full recipes for our dogs, although we do want to make sure we stick to the recommended dietary guidelines throughout each day:
- 50% – 75% animal protein
- 15% – 18% fat
- 25% carbs
Sometimes we will make full recipes that may contain chicken, rice, vegetables, eggs, fruit, flax seeds… all kinds of things.
But sometimes we can just serve a single ingredient.
This is a plate of catfish. I bought 1/2 lb., put it in a saute pan, added a little water, and 10 or 15 minutes later it was ready. I gave my dog about half of it, and will give her the rest tomorrow.
Catfish has about 40 calories per ounce. Fish is a super easy food to make, and doesn’t require you to slave over your stove for hours. Just make sure that your dogs gets a balanced ratio each day, and you can feel free to offer single ingredients like this anytime.
